Kinetic Shields are energetic barriers designed to protect Structs by absorbing the impact of incoming enemy ordinance.

Though capable of withstanding exceptional kinetic impacts, the technology has several caveats. Barriers must be lowered in order for a Struct to launch its own attacks, rendering it vulnerable to reprisals. Additionally, due to dangerous heat generation during continuous operation, the Kinectic Shield can only be briefly activated on-demand when incoming fire is detected, increasing the risk that projectiles will slip through.

Additionally, although a Kinetic Shield is technically capable of defeating all types of incoming high-velocity armaments, modern “Smart” weapon packages typically include countermeasures specifically designed to pierce such barriers. In practice, this renders the technology ineffective against “Smart” weapons.
