Smart Weapons
Details

Modern self-guided munitions, informally know as "Smart Weapons," are a class of offensive weaponry that combine a variety of on-board capabilities to improve battlefield performance.

Smart Weapons typically feature on-board propulsion, and as such travel at lower speeds than ballistic projectiles launched by mass accelerators. However, sophisticated guidance technologies allow Smart Weapons to adapt mid-flight to enemy positions and changing battlefield conditions. Additionally, these munitions often incorporate counter-measures designed to defeat kinetic shields, allowing them to strike targets protected against ballistic fire.

While sophisticated, Smart Weapons are not infallible. Their computerized systems are vulnerable to electronic warfare, with many Conglomerate manufacturers offering equipment packages designed to hack the systems of incoming munitions. This has created a cycle of hardware and software revisions, primarily benefiting weapons manufacturers who now sell Smart Weapon software and "Signal Jamming" product updates on an expensive subscription model.
